Sustainable British Fashion Designer Patrick McDowell’s latest collection ‘Cinderella Shall go to the Football’ retells the story of Cinderella

The collection by Patrick reflects this by blurring the lines between princesses and punters. After the Lionesses’ spectacular Euros performance, McDowell has teamed up with Alex Greenwood to exemplify the strong woman at the forefront of football.

A collection that put the “femme into football,” as McDowell says in the show notes, as well as redefining the game to further Queer culture in football with Swarovski boots, statement ballgowns and crystal-encrusted football jerseys, and shorts.

The designer explores the infamous rivalry between Everton FC and Liverpool FC through color blocking. We see each team’s iconic color palettes reimagined, combined, and juxtaposed. Striking red and chartreuse stands out against the vibrant colors of Liverpool and Everton’s kits. This print is paired with a dash of Cinderella blue and is accented with noir throughout the design. The collection features dried flowers from Patrick’s previous runway, football pitch mushrooms and magical raindrops, sensational crystals, and a Red Aids ribbon to support Patrick’s ongoing relationship with Positive East.

His designs continue to emphasize sustainable practices, working with only recycled and sustainable materials, with four biodegradable leather styles this season crafted in collaboration with biotechnology company Evolved By Nature, including a black puffer jacket, a Cinderella blue jacket, a bow handbag, and a sports bag.

Designed and made locally in London, each piece was available for pre-order on McDowell’s new website after the show. Creating garments that fit the client perfectly and avoid overproduction are fundamental to the McDowell brand.
